Chris Shuptrine & GC AI's Growth Engineer Role

If I may be so bold, as you search for the unicorn for this new Growth Engineer role, I suspect you may have the required and nice-to-have sections flipped.
With coding becoming increasingly commoditized through tools like Lovable (for React) and Claude Code (for most everything else), the power shifts from engineering experience to product vision. This role, with its emphasis on marketing systems, B2B sales, and growth hacking, would benefit from someone with decades of experience in these domains.
Meanwhile, someone who is technically proficient at building may lack the nuanced understanding of B2B content strategy, the intricacies of HubSpot workflows, how to execute programmatic SEO without getting penalized, and how to position one’s brand for LLM discovery. They may also rely on sales/marketing for projects - rather than anticipating those needs since they’ve done it before.
Take myself: I bring 17 years of startup marketing expertise (10 years as VP of Marketing), having helped multiple companies scale, including Kevel, where as the sole marketer I drove growth from $2M to $20M ARR (now at $50M), and Fiksu, which I helped grow from pre-revenue to $100M. I learned in the trenches exactly how to scale a sales-led B2B software product.
Then LLMs arrived, and everything changed. Suddenly, I had the ability to code systems that dramatically increased my efficiency. What started as basic Python scripts with ChatGPT 3.5 has evolved into:
- My own platform of marketing tools, SEOWidgets.ai, which hosts 50+ different marketing automation widgets I built from scratch. They are hosted using Github and Modal.com and employ FastAPI and JavaScript calls.
- Strategic side projects like LLMsCompared.com (helps with LLM visibility) and LetMeChatThat.com. I can spin out a new brand/website within a few hours with scripts I’ve built.
- Becoming the most prolific independent builder on Agent.ai (Dharmesh Shah’s platform) - I officially have the highest number of live agents on the site (30)
- Custom-built GTM growth hacking tools, including:
- A Reddit/Quora scraper that generates contextual responses - which could be useful for identifying relevant legal discussions
- Comprehensive programmatic SEO scripts (all SEOWidgets.ai/blog content was programmatically generated. I’ve implemented similar programmatic SEO programs at Nyckel and Torii)
- Scripts for building lead gen microsites. At Nyckel I built free (ML-based) image classifiers and saw inbound volume jump from 50 visits/day to 4000. GC AI’s next step-function lead growth could come from free legal-relevant tools built on React sites and published via Lovable and Github
- YouTube automation scripts that take a mp4 file, creates a transcripts, writes the contents, and publishes via the YouTube API
- Tons of Hubspot Workflows + Hubspot API + Zapier integrations to automate MQL and SQL analysis
- And more!
I absolutely love building these marketing systems - and it’s one reason why your Growth Engineer role is exciting. So here I am, throwing my hat in the ring - someone without the full-stack engineering credentials, but someone who has already built exactly what you’re looking for.
